What Travelers Like About Seattle Tacoma Airport

Make sure to leave time to listen to the musical performances put on throughout the airport. Many feature traditional music from the Pacific Northwest which may be a great introduction to the area. Alternatively, go on the Art Walk as it is a great way to see over 100 works of art at the airport. Pay special attention to the 16 permanent works of art along with the many changing exhibits. Make sure to check out the large display of Pearl Jam posters.

Children adore playing in the brightly colored Children's Play area. Nursing mothers find this airport one of the best in the nation because of the nursing pods that allow mothers privacy to nurse their young.

A QR code allows you to get updated information on your flight sent to your phone. While you wait, you can charge your devices by plugging them into under-seat plug-ins located on almost every seat in the airport. Several locations also make it easy for those using mobility aids to charge their devices as well.

What Travelers Hate About the Seattle Airport

SeaTac Airport continues to get busier every year. Therefore, it may take awhile for someone to check your bags and for your bags to arrive when you get back to town.

Security lines at this airport continue to get longer. If you want shorter lines, then try avoiding early morning flights. More airlines are making flights out of this airport in the evening which often means longer lines at night. So, if you hate to stand in line, try taking a midday flight.

Fun Things to Do at SeaTac

Central Terminal's large bank of windows makes it a great place to watch planes landing and taking off. Very nearby, check out the local art that is for sale at Fireworks. Look at the mobile created by Ralph Helmick and Stuart Schechter where each tiny piece is its own figure. Yet, the entire mobile makes a picture of a bird landing on water.

In the main ticketing area, make sure to check out the wine bar. Not only is it a great place to have a quiet conversation, but their assortment of local wines will amaze you.

Concourse C and the North Sattelite have professional masseuses and masseurs working in them. While you can get a 15-minute massage, there are also massage chairs located throughout the airport.

History of the Seattle Tacoma Airport

The airport was originally constructed in the 1940s. It was located in the country between Tacoma and Seattle. It is hard to imagine that even by 1957, this airport only served 257 flights a week on two runways. Today, the airport serves over 412,000 takeoffs and landings annually making it the ninth busiest airport in the United States.
